Maybe they are on your iCloud, I doubt you didn't save them somewhere.

Know what it feels, ive been in worse though, I had ios7 beta but im not a developer, everything was right, until ios7 was released, suddenly on the lockscreen they asked me for the developer account, that i didnt have, and i couldn't use the phone at all. So i was going to reset the phone and downgrade it to the previous ios so i could then update to the ios7 normally. But ios7 does not let you reset the phone without putting your password. And you couldn't do that from itunes, so i dont remember well, but i did something that made my iphone blank, it was bricked or something, and i could reset it now but at the same time couldn't, because my home button almost never worked anymore, i used the touchscreen aid home button. So after hundreds of attempts leaving the lock button and home button pressed, it worked and it was reset. But i lost all the pictures, and all that is on the phone. It was a rough time. It took like a day or two to make it work.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I was an iphone person, when i switched to android, I felt freedom. You can do anything in there.

I actually have an android phone. If you root it and start flashing roms, your phone gets slower and slower very fast.

I was just messing I don't have a huge amount of interest in phones. My current phone is stock android though and seems a lot more stable and quick than ios was and does stuff you'd usually need to jailbreak to do. Never got into rooting or anything like that though.

Yup no unstable jailbreaks needed to do what you want with it.

iCloud neglects to back up my contacts and my notes. I just updated to ios 8 beta one and now proceeding to beta 2 because my backup was done there. Now to back up my ####. and contacts, and carry on with downgrading to ios 7.1.1, and jailbreaking.

Next time, use tinyumbrella to shove it into recovery mode. But remember to delete those useless .umbrella files

Thanks fot the tip, but i already own an s4. My issue with that one is that i would love to sync music easily with itunes instead of the ugly Kies.

Always sync all the things! Do you have a backup from before you went to ios8?

It depends on the rom, some are better optimized than others. The one I recently flashed on my tablet is lightning quick and doesn't have the bloat of the stock rom, it's pretty cool.
It's also a function of apps installed, if they're constantly running for notifications and stuff that will definitely slow a phone down.

I was using nightly builds of carbon rom, probably the junk data slowed it all down.

I never use nightly builds for that reason, typically I stick to the most stable recent release.
